They can be crap and problematic, of course! Everything can be. Canon doesn’t excuse anything.
But arguing the validity of something that’s confirmed canon is kind of a hopeless effort, isn’t it? It still exists, even if it isn’t good/something you like.
Shipping is an open thing; you can ship whatever you want, but canon is concrete regardless of what you actually like. It’s fine to ignore it for your own purposes! But telling people they’re wrong about confirmed, obvious canon things is like telling the dictionary it has a wrong definition in it. You’re free to disregard the defined article and use it however you want, but that doesn’t mean everyone is going to or has to, or to understand what it is you’re getting at.
