i’m going to rant about snow and serah for a minute if you don’t mind

you know i see a lot of people decrying snow for leaving serah behind

but no one mentions the fact that serah stood there and said nothing and just let him walk away

it’s all well and good that she realized later that she wanted to go with him or that she didn’t want him to go off alone, but the fact is that she didn’t speak up when it counted… and now she’s got kind of a pity party going in the fanbase.

i’m not saying snow leaving her behind was the right decision to make and he should have talked to her about it and asked her, but if she was going to not say a word when the important moment came up, then the fault doesn’t lay entirely on him that she got left behind.

they were both wrong and i hate seeing people try to put the entirety of the responsibility on snow

you also kind of have to remember likely how little training she had by the time he’d left and how she got most of the training she did with magic and the like during that 3 year time period… it’s very likely both of them realized she would have been a liability.

please note that when snow saw her with noel in sunleth he did not once say “what are you doing here you shouldn’t be here you’re not strong enough you can’t take care of yourself go back to bodhum!” he… basically treated her like she was equal and like she knew what she was doing, because he could tell she did. he let her go and asked someone to watch out for her not because he didn’t believe in her strength but because he wanted to be the one doing it (he tried leaving with them, after all).

snow is reckless and bullheaded and doesn’t always seem to think his actions through, but he’s not dumb or entirely thoughtless and he doesn’t not hold serah in high esteem. when she was branded he didn’t treat her like a child— he said they’d do it together. they would figure it out together. he might belittle her physical strength but he has every reason to, considering she was… a schoolgirl with no training. he doesn’t disregard her feelings— because she never let him know. serah’s wanting to go along with him seems like it’s a choice made in hindsight. neither of them are bad people because of it. just two people who made a mistake with each other. if snow had known his reaction would’ve been entirely different (he should have known instinctually, perhaps, but you can’t fault a man for not being a mindreader, either).

if we want to talk about characters who try to be the hero without regard to how someone feels about their being ‘saved,’ i believe the character you’re looking for is caius ballad.

that said none of this has anything to do with ships or ‘WHO IS BETTER FOR SERAH’ or anything— just that their situation is a lot more complex than ‘not-so-helpless damsel who got left behind by the big dumb hero who doesn’t think she can take care of herself’ and ‘reckless hero who thinks his girlfriend is made of glass and leaves her behind without regard to her feelings.’
